Operational Updates
WFP began the three month process of replacing blue e-cards with red e-cards with the assistance of local partners across Lebanon. The new Common Cards are being used by WFP, UNICEF, UNHCR and the Lebanese Cash Consortium (LCC) to transfer various forms of humanitarian assistance. They can be used both in WFP contracted shops and at any ATM in the country.
The people supported by the programme received a booklet at the distribution, informing them of the types of assistance that the e-card can provide, the agencies providing it and hotlines contacts.
Additional information is available on www.refugees-lebanon.org.A comprehensive shop selection process was completed, resulting in WFP expanding its network of local shops where the e-card is redeemable from 450 to 480 including three chains. Both Syrian refugees and vulnerable Lebanese eligible for food assistance have been informed of the expanded network. All new shops will be listed on www.refugees-lebanon.org.
Gender
- WFP initiated new gender-based violence awareness sessions through its sub-offices during Common Card distributions. Conducted in collaboration with local partner ABAAD – the Resource Centre for Gender Equality – the sessions focused on engaging men in preventing violence against women as well as on early marriage. WFP also distributed ‘no violence against women’ posters in all of its 450 contracted shops across Lebanon.
