BEIRUT, June 9 (KUNA) The Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS), in collaboration with the Lebanese Red Cross, on Friday doled out food aid to 5,000 Palestinian families staying at refugee camps.
The aid was delivered to the families, in the presence of Kuwaiti embassy's acting charge d'affaires to Lebanon Mohammed AlWagayan and Palestinian embassy's representative Hassan Sheshniya.
In a statement to KUNA, AlWagayan said the aid is part of the continued humanitarian support provided by the State of Kuwait to the international community generally and Palestinian refugees in Lebanon particularly. He expressed his gratitude to Lebanon, as it has spared no effort to host both Palestinian and Syrian refugees. He also commended efforts by KRCS in Lebanon, in cooperationn wit the Lebanese Red Cross, through carrying out effective activities and projects aiming to alleviate suffering of vulnerable people.
For his part, Sheshniya thanked the State of Kuwait, His Highness the Amir, government and Kuwaitis for this humanitarian initiative allocated to Palestinians in Lebanon. He noted that Kuwait has been backing Palestinian people for many years, referring to Kuwait's contribution to reconstructing the Gaza Strip. He voiced his hope that Kuwait would continue to buttress Palestinian people and their issue.
According to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), the number of Palestinian people in Lebanon is estimated at 480,000 staying at 12 refugee camps in several areas across the country. (end) wsm.khm.hm
