On March 1, the Government of Japan decided to extend Emergency Grant Aid of 13 million US dollars in response to the humanitarian crisis in Syria and Lebanon.
This Emergency Grant Aid is to provide humanitarian assistance in the areas of health, WASH and shelter/NFIs, through five international organizations including the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
The expected outcome of this assistance is as follows:
[Syria]
This assistance for the displaced people affected by the rapidly deteriorating situation of Northeastern Syria due to operations against Daesh is intended to improve water and sanitation environment for approximately 37,500 people as well as to deliver life-saving support such as shelters and NFIs for about 19,000 people in addition to emergency medical services to around 16,400 people in various camps. Japan will also provide the essential life-saving items and protection services to approximately 6,700 Palestine refugees near Damascus to improve their living condition.
[Lebanon]
The assistances of health and WASH sectors for the people affected by humanitarian crisis will improve the living condition for approximately 40,000 Syrian refugees and people living in neighborhoods. This assistances will also allow about 280,000 Palestine refugees to access the health services.
