HIGHLIGHTS
Over 257,250 families - Lebanese (15%), Syrians (79%) and Palestinian (6%) – were identified as economically vulnerable, exposed to cold, and unable to survive the harsh winter conditions in Lebanon on their own. Therefore, those families are prioritized for winter support mainly because they lack the financial means to keep their families warm while living at high altitudes and in the coldest areas of the country. In light of increased vulnerabilities of the populations, the target this year has been scaled up compared to last year (180,000 families reached in the winter of 2014/2015). This year’s winter support plan, implemented by Basic Assistance partners, will utilize cash as the preferred delivery modality in addition to in-kind support where needed. Shelter activities have been on-going throughout the year but will be significantly scaled up during the winter season, mainly the weather proofing of shelters and anti-flooding measures.
