SITUATION ANALYSIS

Despite a relatively low number of partners with ongoing programmes (10 partners have reported results in the last two months out of 20 partners active in the sector this year), the social stability sector has achieved good results over the end of 2015, primarily in two areas of work: youth initiatives and support to basic services.

Regarding the former, a total of 48 new initiatives aiming at promoting active community engagement by youth from both Syrian and Lebanese communities. In the frame of the “Youth Messenger of Peace” projects, Ricerca E Cooperazione and UNFPA, in partnership with local NGOs and municipalities, have implemented 46 recreational and sport activities involving over 1,500 youth which were trained in non-violent communication and other life skills. In total, nearly 5,000 youth have been reached by the sector through similar activities in 2015.

As for the more tangible support provided by the sector, 34 new community and municipal support projects have been completed over the past two months. These projects, identied through participatory processes and aiming at alleviating resource pressure and strengthening municipalities, primarily resulted in supporting local services in the following areas: communal infrastructure (8) water and waste water (8), solid waste (3), livelihoods infrastructures (local markets, agricultural roads… -4), recreational spaces (2), equipment/renovation of health (2) and education (1) facilities.

In order to support social stability mainstreaming in other sectors, the sector organized a series of training on conict sensitivity mainstreaming in each operational area of Lebanon over the past two months. The trainings were delivered by Forum ZFD to a total of 76 sta from 41 dierent LCRP partners. The trainings were organized following an inter-agency survey to identify priority needs of partners in terms of social stability mainstreaming. An overwhelming number of participants reported being able to apply the knowledge gained directly into their work, which should support the LCPR overall impact of social stability.
