Regional Context
The Syria crisis is notably felt in the countries in the region, which host over 4 million Syrian refugees. Even as the conflict is in its fifth year most refugees remain unable to absorb all the complex shocks that accompany prolonged displacement. Moreover, host communities and host countries are faced with increased challenges related to the deterioration of already limited resources, such as water and stretched services such as health, education and sanitation.
While WFP’s focus remains on the humanitarian response it contributes to enabling livelihood opportunities and protecting the resilience of both refugee and host populations. This can be observed in the contribution made through the e-voucher programme.
WFP continues to carry out activities that contribute to resilience building in Syria’s neighbouring countries to the extent possible. Alongside, WFP is exploring innovative partnerships with local and international entities to expand activities that strengthen the resilience of both the refugee and host population.
